Okay so my friend just told me this really awesome thing.
Umm short story. On halloween you put your shoes by the fire place and a spirit of someone who died in your family passes over.
Like they pass threw your house.

As far as I know this is not an Italian tradition. It's possible that your friend live/has lived in a small village where they've this tradition but this doesn't belong to the Italian tradition for The Passing (All Hallows Even /Halloween day). The most common is to leave a meal on the table for the family's passed away or also leave the house free by going out to allow family's spirits to rest a while in their home. In a few regions they leave some money or small cakes on the table.
I'm sorry but I've checked everywhere and I didn't find anything concerning shoes.
