I worked in a resturaunt between jobs. No one puts bartending/wait staff jobs on their resume unless you are trying to be a resturaunt manager. It's a reasonable and believable explaination, even if it's not true.

A month between jobs is nothing. not even worth mentioning. When you get beyond 3-4 months, then it looks like you weren't working very hard to find a job, or you're hiding something.....like being in jail.

After 21 years on the same job I decided to relax a while.

I've always answered this question the same way..."I had some money saved, so I thought I'd take a vacation and rest".
