You know, the songs that you love to blast loud but got a lot of hell from your parents for liking, either for it's sound or lyrics?

Floyd's Careful With that Axe Eugene and ELO's Fire On High always bothered my mom.

Yours?

Darth Maul OS: Thanks :0)
My parents also hate rock, but they've stopped complaining since I started using headphones around them. But I did once catch my dad bobbing his head along to Metallica once....

Oh wow Sarah, where do I start.
My Dad hates rock music. My Mom was a concert pianist and a very conservative Christian. To say that My taste in Metal music upset them would be a tad of an understatement.Just a tad.
I have always been an absolute against the grain flag flying rebel though. If I used to really really want to torque Dad off I would play either "Some Head's Are Gonna Roll" or "You've Got Another Thing Coming" by Judas Priest. Blue Oyster Cult and Black Sabbath always mildly horrified both of them as well.
Great Question Sarah, You always put out some of the best ones in this section.

I remember making a compilation tape on a fairly new invention called the cassette! Here's a few of the songs (of which I can remember) that were on it:
Ella Guru - Captain Beefheart
Out Demons Out - Edgar Broughton Band
God is Back in Town - Aum
Out of Focus - Blue Cheer
Doin' That Rag - The Grateful Dead
Berry Pickin' - Troyka
Centaur Woman - East of Eden
Spunk Box - Man
Closer to the Truth - The Animals

I'm drawing a blank on the rest of the tunes...but you get the picture (or maybe not!). I think I was 18 at the time, and into the hard and heavy psych/rock of the day. A few weeks later my parents decided that I was old enough to move out on my own! Haaa!

Edit - jmikep69 - That song is freakin' hilarious! Haaaa!

Oh my geesh, Careful With That Axe, Eugene bothered my mom too! I actually have it timed when he starts screaming, it's amazing! Blackened by Metallica also bothers my mom because in one part of the song it says "See your mother, put to death, see your mother dying." So naturally... All of the Doors bother her, she has a short attention span so when the song doesn't start right away or come to an end when she wants it to, she has a fit, same goes for Pink Floyd. I love to sit and listen to A Saucerful of Secrets where she would rather dig her eardrums out. We have much different taste in music, therefore she is always bothered by me. Does that change things or what I play around her? Nope. Should it? Probably. I'm a born antagonist... not the best quality ever.

Yeah, Careful With That Axe Eugene is definitely one that I get strange looks from my parents!
Territorial Pissings & M.V. & I Hate Myself And I Want To Die - Nirvana

Assassinator - Eek A Mouse (I suppose I can understand why though!)

Almost anything by Captain Beefheart!

All Tomorrows Parties - Velvet Underground

It's not so much it bothers them, you know, you get 'the funny eyebrow raise'!

Want to hear something funny? My dad got kicked out of his last apartment (him 36 years old) for playing his music too loud...lol, yeah.

I've never had this problem with my parents...I'm lucky I guess. My grandmother, however, has a problem with any form of music unless it's Christian. Even while watching the TV, if some "bad" music comes on she'll tell us to change the channel.

Lyrics don't usually bother my parents (nothing I watch or listen to really bothers them, whether it's about sex, violence, or has strong language). My mom doesn't usually care, but whenever she has a headache, almost anything loud bothers her. Otherwise, she's indifferent about everything else. My dad hates heavy metal music, indifferent about most other genres, and likes soft rock type of music most.

oh, wow......that was pretty much most of the music I listened to as a teen.......

Butthole Surfers - Who Was In My Room Last Night
Jane's Addiction - Stop!
Pantera - New Level
Tori Amos - Cornflake Girl
Pretty much anything NIN, Sonic Youth and Grunge (my parents had a seething hate for a whole genre for some odd reason)

My mom loves to make fun of Muse, which is a shame since they're pretty much in constant rotation.

My dad refuses to let me play my iPod in the car with him cos he hates what I listen to so much.
