As a lapsed catholic this is the only statement from my forced bible studies that stands out.Does it hold any relevance to the whole philosophy of belief and religion-is it an existential clue to the bible and other fairy stories?
Three small words to sum up the whole basis of gnostic indoctrination.
There is no answer to that question.I am curious -What is all this about; What is truth?
why do all these mind numbing tenets and vengeful rules exist deciding by decree how to live a life And why do all these rackets of brainwashiing and control of the masses originate in the middle East ?
I know my truth now tell me yours................
I am curious(not orange)

I am delighted by some of the answers -i abhor the way man has bastardised religion over the centuries -i believe the truth lies with the rich man decieving the poor undereducated masses by promising them all sorts of goodies when they snuff it ,just to keep everybody ticking over ,Clever and devious -there is enough in this world for everyone's need but nowhere near enough for some peoples' greed.
Judaism Marxism,Racism Fascism,Catholicism -the clue is in the "I.s.m" the -I SELF ME !
Naive and curious maybe but i refuse to be a mug .

Pilate may have asked Jesus "what is truth", because Pilate was clever, astute, an old fox,

and because he knew that truth as was depicted unto him by the detractors or foes of Christ was different from truth as seen by Jesus, and also possibly quite different, quite more glowing, than truth as it was seen or imagined by Pilate himself.

Truth is always conveniently distorted, and truth may be decorated and astutely improved by promoters, and so truth may be conveniently distorted transfigured denigrated by detractors or foes.

Jesus may be seen as a louse between the nails of local high priest and populace and roman chief.

The roman chief wanted to be fair, he was no banal personality, he was clever, he felt empathy with Jesus, therefore he is reported to have asked Jesus about the meaning of truth, about the meaning of truth according to Jesus himself.

Organised Religion was an invention the first devised was Judaism. Then others followed suit.. The Romans saw the power of being able to control people on mass and as such devised The Christian faith... spreading it throughout europe as a method of control without force and a source of revenue.

Religion is the tyrannical perversion of mans fanatical fear of mortality.

It was a rhetorical question asked by a cynical and jaded Roman official who also tended to scoff at "useless Greek knowlege" (Cicero).

Truth is anything that satisfies you (your awareness), and you alone, as being real! Your awareness (consciousness) is real to you but you can't prove by empirical methods (i.e. you can't take it out of its body and test it) that it is real (actually exists) for others. No one can. The existence of consciousness is not scientifically provable it is a matter of FAITH!

There are a lot of truths. There is truth. There are truths. There are truths we know and truths we know we know and there are truths we know we don`t know. There are also truths we don`t know. I hope that`s cleared it up for you.
