My friend and I are going on a cruise. We need to book a hotel for a total of three nights in Fort Lauderdale. We don't want to spend too much but want to be within walking distance of attractions (restaurants, bars, beach, etc). Also, if they have a shuttle service from/to the airport/dock that would be great too.

Any information will benefit us out-of-towners :)

Go to Hotels.com. All the major chains have hotels on or near 17th St. or the 17th St. Causeway which is near the airport, the cruiseport, the beach and numerous, restaurants, bars, etc. You'll be walkable to anything on 17th, but its a short ride to the beach or restaurant row on Las Olas. 17th St. is the locale of the best Irish Pub in FtL: Waxy O'Conner's. A blk or so south of 17th on US-1 is my favorite Lauderdale bar/cheap eats: Ernie's Barbecue. The BBQ's nothing special but they have the best cheap lunch in town: Conch Chowder & homemade (they bake their own) bahama bread. And the characters at the bar provide the entertainment.

You may want to try travelzoo.com or this site http://miami.traveler.bz/ . There is a bunch of information for you to travel well and for very little. Also, there are discounts when you book a hotel online. Most hotels have shuttle service, so when you book your hotel, call the front desk and they can get a shuttle to and from the hotel for you.

Have a great cruise.

We used the Dania Beach Sleep Hotel. Its clean and has good service. Free shuttles to/from the airport and cruiseport. Free breakfast and three small restaurants across the street (Italian, Mexican and Chinese) for dinner and a Publix grocery store. We picked up water and pop for our cruise.

Two great websites for you:

CruiseCritic.com for everything having to do with cruises. Click on "Boards" at the top of the page, then have fun! You may be particularly interested in "East Coast Departures" [LOTS of info re FLL hotels]. You could go to "Roll Calls" and find others who will be on your cruise; "Ports of Call" tells you about your destinations, etc, etc., etc.

TripAdvisor.com has reviews from guests for hotels all over the world, as well as forums.

Have a great cruise!

Go to hotwire.com or expedia.com or priceline.com or one of the many other travel/hotel/vacation sites out there.
