I would like to get my graduate degree in psychology. My advisor said it was extremely competitive to get into a graduate school for psychology, as in most only accept 2-8 students a year. I suspect she is irritated with me because I do not want to continue here as their specialty is educational. I would like to do industrial. Does anyone know how competitive it is or if her statement holds any truth?

It is very competitive. But, like the person above said, don't worry about that (don't worry about people saying it's hard to get it, or it's competitive, although it is rather true). Just do your best at school, get the marks and the other requirements needed to get i, and believe that you'll get in. If this is what you want, close your eyes to all doubts, people saying you can't do it, or other things you read that may make you think twice whether you're making the right decision/raise doubts in your mind. Don't let anyone or anything stop you. If this is what you love, go for it. You have to do what you love in this world in order to be happy. Don't settle for less. If this is your destiny, you will get in. Just believe in yourself. You have nothing to lose, but much to gain. And if you do not get in, there is a reason for everything, it may just mean that there's something even better in store for you. But do not let anyone saying it's competitive stop you from applying. You've got to at least try. You never know what'll happen. Good luck.

i've got not got a psychology degree, yet my maximum suitable pal is graduating with one, and that i'm able to inform you what she is going with the aid of. She has got here across some internships and get admission to-point jobs, and one and all will pay no longer something, or below what she makes genuine now (approximately $14/hr). She is amazingly worried approximately making ends meet while she gets out of faculty, and is getting waiting herself for grad college, by way of fact a superb variety of the roles she has been interested in require that. she is going to attempt between the get admission to-point jobs if she will have the money for it, and circulate back to college in a 365 days or 2. She is stressing out!!!! approximately it, yet she stated that she enjoyed the training. If I have been you, i could proceed with nursing degree and decide for a psychology minor... my mom is a nurse, and you would be waiting to paintings everywhere, each time.... in spite of the undeniable fact that the severe-paying jobs are in administration.

I would say that grad degrees in psych. are pretty competitive because it isn't a slammer degree such as a B.S. in history. but it also depends on the school. I'd say that if you have a strong passion to get involved within a behavioral field, you will get into any grad school you want. even harvard.

I/O Psych is a relatively growing and competitive field, but one ripe for employment and lucrative employment in the future. Take a look at some programs to see the qualifications. NCSU has one here: http://iopsychology.chass.ncsu.edu/
