This is a very interesting and important question.
Americans have a very difficult time learning from history because as a nation, the people selectively see and hear only what they want to see and hear.
The pictures drawn by history are vast, complex, and difficult to interpret. Americans are impatient; think they are smarter and more intelligent than other nations. As a result, they overlook and discount the historical lessons of other countries as much as they discredit their own history. American policy makers have blind spots.
Since the 1960's, the American education system (K-16) has diminished and diluted the teaching of American and Global History. In the last 15 years in particular, teachers at all levels have engaged in revisionist teaching practices. Therefore 2-3 generations of Americans have grown up unable and incapable of understanding the true lessons of history. Political Correctness now overshadows Historical Correctness.
Finally, as the only Free Democracy in the nuclear age capable of enforcing its foreign policies on a global scale, there are few lessons to guide Ameria's actions here in the 21st century. America is the arsenal of freedom, liberty, and democracy. America's enemies do not wage conventional wars any more.

Because the USA is too busy making history rather than trying to learn from it. It's a typical American thing. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it really depends on your point of view.

That is an opinion, not a question..
I defer thinking from that question.. If that question were true, we (USA)wouldn't be where we are on this planet. We would keep touching the hot plate getting burned. NO, we got burned once, and learned from it... :D

History repeats itself.
USA as a whole wouldn't be having a hard time if we didn't have old boy running the joint right now.

Why you worried about the USA? Worry about your own country.
