Without a single doubt!
Spanking is done with the hands to the bottom not a belt.
All those thumbs down, someone doesn't like the truth.

I ain't ever got a welt or a welch. Don't even know how they would feel. I think they must be caused by really severe belting. "Red marks" is something else.
Likely most countries now consider such to be evidence of ABUSE. Yes, even a single welt on a single occasion.
If he/she is 5 , 6, or 7 years old, probably the Child Protection Agency would remove the child from your home OR at least put a real scare into you.
If he/she is 15, 16, or 17 years old and has been drinking (illegally) and driving while somewhat drunk then he/she might deserve a number of welts or welchs ... though I still don't know what the government would say.

Absolutely not (But try not to leave a welch next time).....spanking a child is not child abuse unless its done out of aggression or self enjoyment. It is best to let your child know the reason for their spanking and that what they did was wrong. Don't hold grudges about what they did wrong either. Discipline them for their actions then move on. Continually show them love, praise, and encouragement and that should build a strong bond between the parents and the child.

I certainly hope so. My step-dad was very liberal with the belt when I was growing up.
I am 34 now and I have not spoken a single word to him since i was 16.
My mother never used a belt on me, but she was there when he did, and with very little exception I have not spoken to her in the last 15 years either.
The line between discipline and abuse can sometimes be confusing BOTH for parents and children. There are a lot of people who still believe that spanking is an appropriate means of discipline, personally I think it creates more problems than it solves........
But getting back to your question, if that child goes to his teacher o guidance counselor and shows them the welt and says "mommy hit me" expect quite a bit of trouble, wether your state defines it as child abuse or not.

It is not the way to go. Try following through with time out, or ask the child what they think would be an appropriate punishment, and if it's a good one, follow through. You need to make the child realize that there are consequences for wrong doings so that they can curb them. It lets them feel that you love them and are trying to help them become a better person. Do not yell at them, because it only shuts down the brain for you and the child. Try watching the tv show called Nanny 911. If your child is a handful, warn babysitters on the correct way to handle your child, so that your child won't get hurt. And, install hidden camera so that you know your child is safe.

i believe that now yes it is considered abuse. which now we are made to think it is wrong. for some it is wrong. sometimes taking the tv away or grounding to the room with no phone is not enough. kids these days are spoiled. back when my parents were kids parents didnt hesitate to spank their kids or hit them with a belt. it was known back then. BUT the kids didnt really ever do it again. they learned if they do something wrong they will regret it. no adays if a kid does something wrong they think, " well im just gonna get the tv takin away for a week or two" and most parents dont even go that long, they give in. so spanking yes, i belive you should spank your kids IF what they did was severe enough for it. but you should try no to leave makrs on their body cuz you can/will get DCF called on you

It doesn't really matter whether it is child abuse or not. What DOES matter is whether CPS will take your child away. If you left a mark, the strong possibility exists that they might.
It is like playing Russian Roulette on a single occasion with 5 of the 6 chambers loaded. Would you die? Impossible to say for certain. Is it a good idea? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!

The answer to this depends on what state you live in. In New York State it is considered child abuse by the New York State CPS Registry if you use an object to strike a child and that object leaves a visible bruise. It is also considered an endangering the welfare of a child charge by law enforcement, even if it is an issolated incident.
But, other states are more lax on this issue. If you unsure of your state's law on child abuse and maltreatment you should call your local Child Abuse hotline for more clarification.

It's okay to discipline your child on occasion, but using a belt is where the authorities(men called cops, judges, presidents, sheriffs, the"po-po") draw their line. I strongly believe that discipline helps make a child better, it worked with me and I thank my parents for it too, but it is considered child abuse and illegal to hit any child and leave a mark. Mostly because the mark is pure evidence and you can/and most likely will go to jail.

what is a welch? but if you bruised the kid its not good either. I know i might sound corny but u shouldn't hit your kid. Also how old is the kid. I usto to get spanked and i thought it was okay too but one time a very good friend told me that when you hit a kid the kid will not acknowledge what they did wrong instead they will focus on being spanked. So if you make them go to their room tell them to think about it and after some time go talk to them they will realize what they did wrong.. Getting hit is like a free card to resent you for hitting them, while making them think about it they focus on what they did wrong. I think my friend was right... So think about that, what you do or don't do to your child will affect them for their whole lives and be a model on what type of adult they will be too. BE careful and think very hard on how to treat your child.

Well, I'd suggest not leaving a welt. They are you kids, you dont want to be doing harm to them. Just sometimes a bit of pain is the only thing that can set kids right. I think on a single occassion no one will toss you in jail. So long as its a mistake, you got a bit carried away. I could forgive that.
