Perhaps some smart person will realize that the money being spent in Iraq could go towards the debt towards China. And maybe, just maybe, the war in Iraq will end before we have a war against the Chinese.

But knowing the Bush administration (which China has little tolerance for now), they'll just deny it and carry on like the stubborn brats they are (or ask for a payment plan. Ha! Ha!).

We could give them the Social Security Trust Fund for collateral. Oh whoops - that doesn't exist either
Based on the additional information added to the question - I now advise that we return all of the stuff we bought from them over the last ten years for full credit. And by the way - to everyone who says screw China - even if we repay them zero - all they have to do is to stop buying new debt needed to finance the deficit - then its us who are screwed because if no one loans us money then taxes will have to go up very significantly. We are in a mess.

Last I checked the US Economy was over 19.7 Trillion Dollars and growing at 2.3%/year.

When you have that much money in your system a loan of 200Billion is nothing.

In other words: If you have $19/day allowance and you borrow $0.20 from someone, are you going to be in trouble if they ask for it ?

Don't loose your sleep yet.

US is still the largest market in the world and where will China be if the US Consumer stops buying?

I'd tell them to piss up a rope...try to collect...what are they giong to do to us?Even if they tried embargos or other schemes,we are still the USA and if we remove the liberal elements from policymaking the US can sustain itself quite nicely. We have lots of our own resources...the commie liberals and their hokey ideas on the enviroment have left us vulnerable and without them pissing and moaning about the fluffy tootoo or some other crappola America can easily "right" itself.
And with today's tech know-how,the 'footprint' would be minimal.

Screw the godd**n Chinese.

There isn't a pre-payment clause on T-Bills. They can sell them. If they do, they will tank the market and lose a ton of money.

The US will have to go to the pawn shop around the corner. I think we can get a few billion for Montana for starters. It's a little used, but still in pretty good shape.

Bush will make up some story about weapons of mass destruction and send more kids off to their deaths. Don't worry. There's a good few million Americans he can sacrifice before he'll have to pay anything. Poor buggers.
