I'm trying grow a fig tree in San Francisco (Osborne Prolific) and it hasn't fruited. Has anyone had success with it?

Just ask, there are lots of figging fruits in San Fran. Sorry, sometimes I just can't help myself. RScott

Make sure your fig tree is getting plenty of sun they don't do well in a shady spot. my fig tree is about 20 years old it bares fruit every year I live in the midwest zone 5 it freexe back to the ground every year comes back up in the spring fine. I have found over the years that ants are my biggest problem with figs. try placing some cinnamon sticks around the base of the tree seems to repel then quuite well

Something must be wrong with your tree. The fig is actually a case for the flowers. The flowers are polinated by a fig wasp which enters the fig. Even without fig wasps, the tree should produce the fig.

If you are on the pennisula you may not get enough heat. And the fog doesn't help.
Try a thick mulch to hold the heat in the soil. maybe gravel or ground up old tires.

In Texas - I use miracle grow sparingly - my figs are "Celestial" (when mature they show green but they are eatable) I also have "Brown turkey" (taste like mollasses with fruit taste.
(both delicious)
Keep the soil damp, but do not flood.
Resist triming the lower branches, so you can harvest them easily. good luck and be patient.

You shouldn't have a problem finding "fruits" in San Francisco!!!!
