When I was a teenager (I'm now 40), I used to love to simply walk in the woods, enjoying nature. My neighborhood was pretty rural, but is now very developed, so not much woods left. Anyway, I never gave a thought to what might be out in the woods with me, growing up watching every nature show I could. Then, I saw a movie called Prophecy, which was a bout a giant mutated bear running around a rural area eating people. The main culprit was a corrupt logging company which was polluting the waterways in the area with methyl mercury. Let me tell you, that movie scared the wits out of me, and made me uncomfortable in the woods for mayn years. The special effects are pretty hokey by todays standards, but still is the scariest movie I've ever seen.

Two classic, scary films in the Sci-Fi genre, which also have interesting psychological and sociological ramifications (ignorable if all you want is the terror-rush!):

"The Day of the Triffids" (the first link, below, refers to the novel, not the film (second link), but the idea is the same; reviews at the third link). I saw it when I was a kid, and it STILL gives me nightmares! I even tried to get over it by buying the DVD at a dollar store, but, to this day, I can't bring myself to view it!!! I'm sure it's pretty cheesy, now, but, it was quite scary, then!

Another good flick is "Five Million Years to Earth" (last two links (the original British release had another name)). It's a bit talky, and might bore the younger crowd, but, if you pay attention, it'll scare the pants off you! (either that, or it'll give you the biggest laugh you've ever had!)

P.S. If that doesn't do it for you, please refer to the next P.S.

P.P.S. BOO! Bwahh-haaaa-haaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! ;)

In the Mouth of Madness is a pretty scary movie. One not too many people have heard of. Directed by John Carpenter. Has Sam Neill, the guy from Jurassic Park, in it. Came out about 95 I think.

The Grudge/The Grudge 2 are THE SCARIEST MOVIES-- but I love them :) Either that or Hills Have Eyes, which I wouldn't watch because that is much more gore than horror. It is disturbing more than keeping you in suspense and interested.
