for some reason i seem to recall many people predicting the New York Rangers winning the Cup over San Jose.

well umm....San Jose might make it, but when is NY gonna step outta the cellar?

im sorry, let me rephrase that.

the rangers are not in the cellar, but close enough. 12th place in the conference?!? good god. that might as well be the cellar.

yeah it is still october but usually when a team starts out like this in any sport, they usually end like that. check out the NFL after september. several teams that started out in the cellar are still in the cellar, and vice versa.

Shotgun Mercenary, the Rangers were 11th in the conference on December 2nd last year (Ottawa was 12th) and both teams (and Pittsburgh) were pretty unstoppable after that

The 1993 Montreal Canadiens were 20th out of 24 teams on December 15th 1992, and went on to win the Stanley Cup.

It only matters where you rank on April 7, 2008...........not where you are today!

Have you watched a Rangers game yet? They are playing great defensive hockey (which was their trouble areas coming into the season), they have had trouble scoring but the team has looked good the last few games. They put in 3 goals last night and hit the post 4 times. The few games i have seen the opposing goalie has looked amazing. I think it might be a little early to count them out. Too many good players on that team, and they should be getting a few injured vets back in the lineup the next 2 weeks.

For myself, it is a little too early to be writing off any team. If they don't have something going by the All Star game, then I can say whether they are in it or out of it. It's usually around game #65 that I begin to weigh all the teams chances for winning the Cup.

Its 10 games into the season. Theres a lot of hockey left. I wouldn't count any team out yet after 10 games.

People, we need to remember that it is still October. The season is 82 games long. I am not saying the Rangers are going to even make the playoffs, but it is WAY to early to write anyone team off. All it takes is a hot goaltender once you make the playoffs.

They'll rebound. They have Jagr and the goalie, that I believe is second only to Luongo, in Henrik Lundqvist. Their prospects could be better. Basically, it comes down to Jagr playing the way he is capable of.

Go Flyers!

Way to early for all that nonsense.  I would rather be in 12th place in October than in April.
