i write for my university's student paper, doing gig reviews. obviously it would be very helpful if i could get some sort of press pass so i can get some decent pics etc.
i have asked about it at the papers meetings but due to lack of staff and money it keeps getting forgotten about- its on the "to do list"- so i thought id just try to get it done myself.
so how do i go about getting a press pass???

Call the organizer, say who you are, and ask what the procedure is. You'll probably have to write a letter on the letterhead or an e-mail off the official Web site.

As long as you have a legitimate reason for going, there shouldn't be a big problem.

Usually, press passes are issued per event. You normally don't get one to hold on to like a membership card at the gym.

Also, at these meetings, there should be a professor who is chosen, or volunteers, to be a part of the student paper's organization. Maybe you can ask him or her. Call your town's local newspaper office and check with them on the protocol for obtaining a press pass.
