I was buying batteries at a store. They guy asked my name so I told him. Then he asked me what I would name my future kids? I was a bit shocked and then told him. He was in his late 40's. I'm sorry do men ask this to a lady they never even seen or met before? I found this highly unusual. Your thoughts.

Why did you feel the need to answer such personal questions from a stranger, were you intimidated? Next time if a stranger or anyone for that matter ask personal questions, just say, "That is a personal question and I decline to answer it." Change the subject right away. As long as you answer personal questions, people in general will ask them. It does not matter their age, gender, if they are a stranger, friend or family member some people feel they have a right to invade your privacy.

Some guys do that to find out if you are married or going out with someone else. I went to buy shoes one time and the sales guy did the same thing to me. They ask something like that so you say, I already have kids, I don't want anymore, etc.. It is just a way to dig into your business.

Most men would never think of asking something like that, if only because it implies that they want to be connected to your kids, and many men are commit-o-phobes. It sounds to me like he's not your average healthy well-adjusted male- I would steer clear of that store in the future.

I've met strange cashiers at places before as well. Although not usually men, I'm sure he isn't trying to do anything just trying to make conversation to keep his job interesting. I have been totally embarassed by cashiers before about things I have bought so....atleast that didn't happen to you.

He sounds like the guy in 40 year old virgin! He might not know what's appropriate to say to a lady. LOL

It is unusual. I'd stay as far away from him as possible and try to bring a friend with you every time you go to that store so he can't follow you or watch you closely.

That seems a tad weird to me also. Why on earth would he even care to ask that when he doesnt know you? Maybe he was just trying to make small talk but in a weird way. Who knows, how odd!!!

Some people are just like that. Although most of the weird people I run into are extremely nice, I try to avoid them the best I can. There are just some people that are like that.

He shouldn't have even asked your name. Tell the store management how he made you feel uncomfortable.
