Yes you will need it for all your personal belongings and you new dog friend.
Also remember to find a nice big and resistant trash can to make your own fires and gather with the guys next block

if you want to amass a lot of things and you are in a city, sure...but you dont need one. a good backpack and a tent and sleeping bag work pretty well for the things you need....maybe a tarp too.
if you play guitar, that can help to, since you could busk....
