Would highly recommend the Greenbrier Inn in Killington, Vermont. Also would recommend eating at The Garlic also in Killington, the tapas is terrific.

I'd imagine this time of year, Vermont would look lovely with all the Fall colors. So is New Hampshire. You guys can get a lodge cabin for the weekend. It would be awesome.
Boston is great. But I'm not sure how far of a drive would be for you. I'd say get on the Web and check out Vermont (maple syrup making tours , etc
http://www.travel-vermont.com/ ) or New Hampshire attractions (Berlin walking tour, parks, museum, etc).
Good luck and have fun!

I'd recommend Boston - there's a ton of stuff to do, and if you stay outside the city near a train station, it's much less expensive than you think.
Look into getting a GoUSA card - they have an excellent one for Boston. Tons of major attractions are included and depending on which ones you choose, it ends up being a real bargain: http://www.gobostoncard.com/

Why not the Beacon Hill Masterpieces, http://www.123world.com/boston/boston-attractions.php . And then go to the Opera House, or something like that? Or what about a night at the CAMBRIDGE/BOSTON HOTEL? It's really beautiful there. From what I remember it's looking over the boston river, that would be a great little get-a-way!
have fun!!!

This is a great place to go for a couple http://www.nestlenookfarm.com/
It's in Jackson, NH., not too far from eastern Maine, great condos for romance on top of a mountain, indoor pools, and is close to North Conway for shopping, clubs, restaurants, etc.
I've stayed there a few times and love it!

How about Providence, RI. You could stop in Boston on the way down there. The fall colors are almost gone by now, but the cities are both beautiful. Have fun.

Check out Woodstock, Vermont. It's a cute little town with lots of B&Bs, art galleries & shops, hiking, and a historic farmstead.
Very picturesque. Not too far from you, I don't think. My husband and I did a weekend there from NE Massachusetts, with no problem.
