Do you honestly think that, all else being equal, a white male won't get a job before anyone else? Do you honestly think that, even if the white male isn't quite as good as his competition, he still doesn't have at least as good a chance? Do you honestly think a rich white kid doesn't have an advantage over a smarter poor minority kid when getting into a top school?
The claim that everyone has the same opportunities is just a way for conservatives to justify their philosophy that everyone should get to keep everything they have, and that nobody should get any extra help. Under this concept, if you don't have something, it's your own fault and nobody else's. Of course, this is also a subtle way to mask entrenched bigotry. After all, if everyone has the same opportunities, and there are only 7 African American CEO's and 12 female CEO's of Fortune 500 companies, that must show that they simply aren't as capable as white males, right? (Let's not even get into Congress) After all, since they have the same opportunities, the fact that they're not as represented can only mean they're not as good.
Anyone who is honest with themselves knows that everyone still doesn't get the same chance in this country. But only one group realizes how un-American that is.

While we need certain criteria for race differences, racism will never go away to the fact that government it's self is always reminding us of differences: "x% of black males this, or x% of white females that".
If they don't want us to be different, why do they keep remindng us that we are?
I think that everyone has the same opportunities, but other races/groups get more benefits for being a minority. For instance, everyone can qualify for student loans, but some ethnic backgrounds get grants based on that. I don't think these types of things are fair.
Well, I'm a white male and I think that this will be a minority one day--that's ok, my kids will reap the "benefits" one day then!

As much as many of us (myself included) would like to believe that discrimination on the basis of race is dead, it isn't. People are going to notice your race and form a stereotype for you that you may very well not fit 1% of. Women still receive less pay, and often have to prove themselves beyond what men do to get recognition.

I am denied the hundreds of rights and benefits conferred by the law for a marriage. I am prohibited by law from marrying my partner except in Mass. But even then the federal marriage rights and benefits do not apply.
I can not serve in the armed forces for the same reason.

Well.. I think college should be more accessible. I have two scholarships and my parents are poor, so I pay the difference out of pocket and it is outrageous.
