Clearly WWII.
60 million total deaths (military casualties on all sides, prisoners - not just Jews, civilian collateral death and famine)
Literally a "WORLD" war.
No other war comes even CLOSE to the amount of involvement in number of countries or amount of death. There were several battles with more casualties than the entire Iraq war combined.

The war that pops into my mind is World War II because it was a world conflict of many nations an probably the most costly to our earth. The war we fight today with Iraq and Afghanistan are only anti-terror type wars with few actual countries involved in the real fight. So World War II is the one .

I think of world war 2 as that was a terrible was as they all were; but usually that what pops in people head i think is the 2nd world war for sure.

Depends on the context of conversation. Am I watching a movie, then I hope I know which war it's about.
Perhaps a jist of a conversation I'm overhearing? I assume the current war would be what I would assume the dialoge was about...
But from people I know who were involved in other wars I would likely assume it was from WWII...
