Reposting this question because I didn't get that many answers with different perspectives last night

He opted out I know but it doesn't neccessarily mean he'll want more money even tho he has the option to ask for more.

I know how he and Scot Boras have been in the past but lets think about it

what if he changes his attitude in the offseason and after thinking long and hard about what he has accomplished and thinks about just playing for a winning team

Hypothetically, what if he asks for less money and what if he signs up with another team for like 6 years 17- 20 million dollars a year that is pretty close to contending with a championship so that he can be accomodated in that team's payroll?

how would Yankee fans feel then?

I know the chances of that happening are mighty slim but lets be objective...what if he does that?

what if he opted out just to get a change of scenery?

what if he did that cuz he feels the yanks aren't good anymore to contend for a championship

what if he's just sick and tired of new york and the media and being underappreciated?

what if he's tired of the management for making poor decision, especially on pitching? (this point only is kinda similar to Kobe as he is unhappy with the management for not trying to bring in quality talent around him)

I would agree with most of your scenario but not about the money. I've said it all along that A-Rod didn't have what it took to play in New York. I was hoping that I was wrong but evidently not.

I'm sure he will land with a contender. It wouldn't make any sense not to. There are rumors today that if Joe Torre gets the Dodgers job A-Rod might follow. In terms of his career stats it would not be a wise decision. Dodger Stadium is NOT a home run park!

Let's remember this, as politically correct as A-Rod was when interviewed by the media, he hardly endeared himself to the fans. The fact that he had issues with the most beloved Yankee, Derek Jeter, didn't help him to score any points with the fans either.

Finally, he will end up with a contender and it will be for more money.

who knows how Yankee fans will feel? How do fans of any team feel when a major player leaves? I suppose they can feel relieved or betrayed, depends on the individual circumstances. If he chose to make less money to win a championship - well, that question just seems strange because the Yankees always seem to be in the playoff hunt, at least most of the time. There is no guarantee that any other team will get there on such a regular basis - no, not even Boston. People keep saying the Angels but the Angels are not annual contenders. Even with the money "down" to 15-20 mil a year you still eliminate a lot of teams such as the Indians, quite possibly the entire AL Central. And the Yankees have young talent such as Phil Hughes...et al. so I say again - this makes no sense, not even as a hypothetical question. His best chance, if you go purely by stats, would be to stay in NY so I concur with everyone else - this is all about the Benjamins to Payrod aka A-Fraud.

I just hope the Sox don't sign him. I would really hate to boo a Sox player.
I wonder if A-rod is good for baseball. I know he's great and all, but I feel that you have to become a part of the team and city when you play for any extended period of time. I always felt that he's just a hired gun. He doesn't care about the fans or the community he plays in.
If he signs for less, I'll eat my words. The Yankees (as much as I hate to admit it) are a great team and will always be a great team. They need players that want to be a part of that team and not in it for personal stat gains, which has been the problem for them as of late. The Yanks have to do what the Sox did this past season which is blend more of your homegrown talent and stop worrying about the stat guys. A-Rod had great stats, but his stats did nothing for them in the post-season.It's probably true that they may not have been in it at allif it wasn't for A-rod, but maybe they would have.

First off Pigs will fly before we will see that happening.
It won't happen with $-Rod. His legacy in baseball will be the dollar sign and the personal Stat. Yes he's a great player and will reinvent the records but he hasn't learned the Team concept. He's all about Me Me Me. He opted out to further enrich his Bank Accounts. The Yankees made every attempt to make him comfortable. Even the Fans came onboard last season. No excuse for $-rod.

There is a good chance that the MLB Players Union would not allow A-rod to take a cut in pay, citing A deal not favorable to baseball. A-rod wanted to go to Boston before signing with the Yankees, but the players union prevented it. A-rod will get big bucks wherever he winds up. Cubs fans should be excited, though.

Boras will never go that route. He is all about the money and the more money the better. He has never told a client to sign with a team so that he could win a title. Does A-Rod need to be away from the Yankees, probably. But, if they step up and offer the most money over the most years, he'll be back in pinstripes.

How many more opportunities are you planning on giving this man until he proves to you for once and for all that he chokes under stressful situations?
A-Rod had the perfect situation to succeed in ; a good team that always made the playoffs , a good mellow manager, great money and ownership that was committed to winning and despite all of that he failed miserably in pressure situations.
Where do think that A-Rod could possibly go that will give him as many opportunities to succeed as the Yankees did ?
Exactly ,Nowhere

Then I hope he goes to Colorado where he will hit like 100 hrs/year between hitting in that park and hitting against National League pitching. Either way, if I were him I would go to the National League where he would just dominate.

Kind of hoping he lands in Annaheim though, but that's just because I'm an Angel fan.

Slim chance, I would think, although you made a very good argument. It seems to me that the team of Boras and A-Rod will continue to seek the biggest $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Nice thought but this is all about one last payday, not that any reasonable thinking person could actually blame him what is known as a free market society. We all have the right to try and gain the most for our services, what ever they are, as a Civil Engineer if I do not like what my COmpany is paying me I can leave at any time and go to a competitor; Baseball players only have that opportunity a few times in their careers, this is his BEST shot at a really huge payday. Anyone who says that they would not go for is a liar, you want to play on a team that can win but you do not want to short yourself for the future.
