I without fail give them candy but I MIGHT give them a bit of grief before hand - if they are seriously older - like 14 I make them tell me a joke or do an impression of an animal.

Trick or Treat is a ridiculous 'Festival' sadly inmported to Britain from America. Here in England kids go round often threatening the elderly with 'pranks' if they are not given money. I have seen much wilful and wanton damage caused by ;'Trick or Treaters' because of this. Personally I think it should be banned. It has nothing to do with the festival of All Hallows E'en.
The Festival of Halloween is a celebration of the end of the fertile period of the Celtic Goddess Eiseria. It is said that when Eiseria reaches the end of her fertile cycle the worlds of the dead and the living interlap. This happens on October 31. Masks are worn to show respect for the Goddess Eiseria who, like most Celtic deities, does not wish to be seen with human eyes. The day also preceeds All saints day, which was at first the celebration of the start of a new cycle of fertility for the celtic Goddess Eiseria. Couples incapable of producing children thus tried their luck on All saints day.
Personally I put a sign on the door saying 'No Trick or Treaters'

Give them candy!!! Some parents really cant afford halloween costumes! Have you noticed how expensive they are these days, imagine if you had 4 kids to buy them for. Of course alot of people in that situation would make there own but some parents just dont care that much to take that time out and its not the kids fault

Good for them! maybe they can't afford a costume, or they are dressed up like "kids". Either way, if they come trick or treating - treat them.

I give them the nasty left over candy from last year if they look like they're over 15. Otherwise I assume it's all a part of some costume I don't get.
I also get my house egged a lot, but I always catch someone talking about it at school and figure out who it is.

I usually give them candy, anyway. Sometimes they have good reasons as to why they don't have a costume, and if they don't, it's usually the best way to avoid getting the house egged and trees toilet papered.

If they are young maybe they can't afford one and their parents do not have the imagination to make one for them. We threw sheets over our heads and went as goast.
Send the older ones off. Watch them though so they don't vandilize your place. Take a pictue of them at the door just to be safe. That should keep them in line.
