The huge media conglomerates are forcing a monopoly on our media and our source of news and information. We are no different than Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union. It is almost laughable that many Americans still believe that we are a free country.

Who said our press is "free" ? They are given an agenda and stories to cover and what to stay away from. Otherwise it would be far more diversified in it's reporting. Regardless of what you watch they are reporting the same thing.

Typical. Just another long haired hippy with no clue as to what you are talking about. Always running around yelling about freedoms and civil liberties but you have clearly never read the Constitution.

Please, show me 1 place in the Constitution where the control of media by a private company is regulated or prohibited. Go on, show me. I'm waiting......
You can't because it isn't in there.

If you had ever read the Constitution, you would know that our press is only protected against the government. It is not protected in any way from individuals or private companies. What part of "Congress shall make no law..." don't you understand?

Dumbass.

Nothing prevents you from starting your own press and journalistic publications to get your message out. Nothing. All of these huge conglomerates and monopolies started small one day. Many smaller presses are starting now, or did awhile back and are slowly growing in size. How could you, in a fair manner, encourage people who's content they think is newsworthy to get their message out without just handing them media access and money to get the job done? You can't, you have to work for it and sell news that people want to hear. If you don't like the news, don't buy it, don't read it (I don't). You still have a choice!

It's free for those who can afford one. That's why they want to control the Internet.

The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history,
whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite."

Well I'll agree with you that we aren't as free as we used to be but to compare us to Nazi Germany and the old Soviet? Not even close. When we get to one news outlet that is completely government controlled, you can re-post.

I believe that we do have a free country in that we (the people) can stand for ourselves if we choose to. The operative word is CHOOSE!!! There are monopolies everywhere in our culture and in the world for that matter, but we let them create themselves because we continue to purchase their goods, read their papers and watch their news. If you want something to be done about it, try creating your own paper, blog or column and see how people respond.

no we are not even remotely close to nazi germany or soviet union. you can still go out into the street and have strikes/rallys withouth being murdered. dont let the media control you if you allow it to happen thats when you are no longer free.

Feel free to leave anytime.......
Although our main stream press isn't as "free" as it once was there are other sources for news besides NBC & CBS.
