Did I miss something? Since when does China dictate what we do? Should we be worried?

China is merely expressing their opinion, what "grave consequences" CAN China apply to Canada? The only thing I can see would be trade sanctions and the like. You've GOT to remember that the Chinese leadership is only a few steps less-mad than the North Korean, and has many of the same cultural liabilities, that constant need to avoid "Loosing face". Don't fret it, of China took any overt action, your friends to the south (Where I live, by the way) will see it as something to be dealt-with in the strongest possible terms. As long as your prime minister isn't an appeasement-specialist, things will be just fine, and the Chinese will climb back into their Ming vase.

One must be patient with China. It takes time for a government to mature. Many mistakes are made along the way. China is in a "control" phase and fears people like the Dalai Lama that have (non-governmental) influence over people.

Of course Canada should not be worried. But neither should Canada stoop to any kind of retalitory response. Canada must present itself as a role model if at all possible (which it is currently doing).

Maybe the dollar store might not have any dangerous toys for sale?! It might hurt a company like Bombardier that sells big-ticket items that the Chinese government has influence over. However, small and medium sized Chinese firms are not going to throw away a chance to make money because of what the old men in Beijing think of Harper meeting the Dalai Lama.

Canada should send China a message back and say, "China will suffer grave consequences unless China stops aiding the genocide in Darfur."

As long as we continue to consume the garbage they call merchandise, than yes we should be worried, as China will easily win any economic battle they choose to impose on Canada.

Take no notice of China, China is nothing but a big plastic copy of the modern world.
