The only reason Zor-El may have been branded a traitor is because he agreed with the Kryptonian Science Council in saying his brother Jor-El was insane. This brought about a rift in the family relationship that was carried on to Kara. Yes, Kal-El is very jealous of his cousin.

As Tom G said, they have altered th emythos over time, however, you must also remember that the all-wise (sarcasm!) Science Council branded Jor El a lunatic when he predicted Krypton's death.
One gets the impression that Krypton as a society had fallen into the trap of political correctness, and anybody who did not conform was ruthlessly crushed by public scorn. Kind of what the Chinese and North Korean Communists do in their 'Political re-education' (i.e., brainwashing) camps.
Nice people. Maybe there was a GOOD REASON Jor El wanted to send Kal to another planet...!

Depends on which incarnation of Superman you are talking about, but generally no. He was just a revolutionary and branded a traitor by the government of Krypton in most versions of the story.

In the classic Superman comics no. In the current comics maybe. In Smallville who cares the show is now so far removed from the comics and the actual legend as to be useless
