If you have cleaned and used all the odor products you can and still have a smell, ask for the assistance of somebody handy to help you to replace the wax ring on your toilet.

This requires emptying out the toilet tank, turning off the water, moving the toilet off the ring and replacing it with a new ring. Most likely you just have a cracked or leaking wax ring. A new wax ring costs about $2.

Hopefully you know someone who is willing and able to give you a hand on this. If it is indeed the wax ring that is cracked or leaking it could also damage the subfloor and leak onto that!

What type of floor surface do you have? Tile with grout can be very porous and splattered urine can get into the grout. Aggregate floor (tiny pebbles glued together) can be a real problem for the same reason. I recommend diluted bleach solution but check with a tile mfg to find out if it will damage the grout first. Also check to see if the sealant material around the base of your toilet is sealed. If not reseal it. The urine smell is not coming from the bowl if it is kept clean. It is more than likely coming from the floor area or seal. Hope this helps.

Clean you bathroom from top to bottom with bleach. Then keep wipe it down every day. Put a freshner in the toilet tank. Every night before you go to bed, put a splash of Fabuloso in the toilet and let it sit over night and flush in the morning. It should help with the smell. Get one of the automatic air freshners that spray every so often to keep it fresh in there all the time. I also use plug ins in my outlets to keep my bathrooms fresh. Make sure the boys hit the mark when they use the toilet & if they don't tell them to wipe up their messes. That's probably where the smells are coming from. Good luck. 2D

I am having the same problem, however the smell is coming from the bowl itself. I have tried everything and a day or 2 after cleaning it, it smells again. I am not sure if it the tank or maybe the water is not filtering properly so it is not clean water cycling back into the bowl. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Had the same problem after installing the low flow toilet- Give it the Nurse Ratched inspection- i flound that even though i use the clorox cleaner and a good brushing , there was still a moldy build up under the rim.
once i got that taken care of , the oder disappeared . I ran white vinigar through the system twice then scrubbed .

I actually had the same problem in my kids bathroom. I thought it was the cats peeing on the rug, but i took the rug out and cleaned everything thoroughly. It turned out that it was the toilet seat. its one of those soft seats and it was cracked, so urine was absorbing into the seat. when i replaced the seat, the smell went away. if you dont have a soft toilet seat, make sure youre cleaning around the bottom of the toilet really well, odors really hide out there.

Toss any rug you have around the toilet, first of all. Second, use pure bleach on a cloth, and wipe down the top and bottom of the seat and the entire rim, as well as the outside of the toilet. IF you have tile floors, wipe the area around your toilet as well. Leave on, and then rinse off 30 minutes or so later.

Have you cleaned the outside of the bowl clear down to the floor and the floor around the toilet, especially in front? If you have carpet, you might need to rip it up and use a cleanable surface and use throw rugs (they have foam like mats you can put under a throw rug to keep it from sliding across the floor.)

Toilet Smells Like Urine

Have you looked in your basement/crawlspace for a leak? The wax-ring seal may be broken. This is a seal between the toilet and the outflow pipe. Over time, the seal can become weak and brittle. Finally drying out all together and needing repair.
