I have read some statements today that have bothered me.
People saying God doesn't exist, and comparing the Creator to the "tooth-fairy"?!!
My God has a place in every phase of my life.
To say he isn't real, or to belittle his involvement in sports, is to degrade every team who says a team prayer before the game, every player who bends a knee and thanks Him during a game, and every player and fan who says a prayer for someone injured during a game.
I am not trying to be melodramatic, but in my opinion, God should be included in every part of our lives.

it seems that alot of you feel that God should be limited in what HE can be involved in.
How do you limit what is Limitless?

Some of you seem to be missing the point.
My question is..can we place limits on God?
He (not she) is our Creator. He is an omnipotent, and all loving God.
And this is not a private question. If you don't acknowledge Him, then He won't acknowledge you. I don't remember Him excluding the "sports" part of our lives.

By asking a question, how am I forcing anything on anyone?
I would actually prefer that those of you who wish to belittle God, not even get involved in this forum, although I know I have no say in that.

I agree 100%
you said it well!!
God Does Exsist and I am sad for those who do not belive and take part in the blessings he gives!!
For the team to pray befor a game is great!
The team to pray to not win but to be safe!
God has a place in every aspect of life wether the non belivers think so or not!
Great Question!

Of course He does. God has a place in every part of our lives.
What doesn't need to be included are all of these atheists who want to put limits on what an omnipotent God can and can't be involved in.
God is our Creator. Who are we to think that He doesn't get involved in sports.
Remember, HE can see into everyones heart, so it is not impossible that He would favor one team over another. He can see things that we can't.
So for those of you who seek to limit God, don't try to put limits on something you cannot possibly understand.
God hears every prayer from every player, and every fan.

The only place Our Lord has in sports is in praying that no one is hurt. In other words I have an issue with people who pray for their team to win. I mean what about the other team?

I agree! And God most certainly does exist! And if you look around the league you will see one team that knows that to 100% true and thats the Indianapolis Colts! I believe that coach Dungy is quite dedicated to God! The entire team seems to have great faith in God. Peyton Manning is another dedicated person.

but every team says a prayer before a game! God is going to favor team A over team B because they prayed longer or better? so many more important things God must deal with before a sporting event even makes his radar. God watches sports the way we all should as pure entertainment

In my opinion, praying to God for victory does not have a place in sports. Praying for protection and an injury-free game is fine, but asking him to let your team win is pretty stupid, especially since there are probably people doing the same thing for the other team.... what's he supposed to do? Take a poll and give the popular vote a win?

Dear god,
Hope you got the letter,
And I pray you can make it better down here.
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer,
But all the people that you made in your image,
See them starving on their feet,
cause they don't get enough to eat
From god,
I cant believe in you.
Dear god,
Sorry to disturb you,
But I feel that I should be heard loud and clear.
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears,
And all the people that you made in your image,
See them fighting in the street,
cause they cant make opinions meet,
About god,
I cant believe in you.
Did you make disease, and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
And the devil too!
Dear god,
Don't know if you noticed,
But your name is on a lot of quotes in this book.
Us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look,
And all the people that you made in your image,
Still believing that junk is true.
Well I know it ain't and so do you,
Dear god,
I cant believe in,
I dont believe in,
I wont believe in heaven and hell.
No saints, no sinners,
No devil as well.
No pearly gates, no thorny crown.
You're always letting us humans down.
The wars you bring, the babes you drown.
Those lost at sea and never found,
And its the same the whole world round.
The hurt I see helps to compound,
That the father, son and holy ghost,
Is just somebodys unholy hoax,
And if you're up there youll perceive,
That my hearts here upon my sleeve.
If theres one thing I don't believe in...
Its you,
Dear god.

God SHOULD be included in sports and everything else (not that I am claiming to be a super-holy Christian). What I don't like is when athletes claim that they won because God was on their side- as if he was working against the other team's athletes.

You are absolutely right, Vic, and God is there when the game stops and people shutup to see if the player can get up off the field when he/she is injured. God is there whether people believe or not. Thank God He is there during our times of doubt and weakness. We are not here by chance or some fluke.

You can think what ever you want, if teams find it helpful to pray before the game or point to the sky to "glorify HIS name" for helping them kick a field goal that is not a problem. It has a profound effect on some people lives others not at all, but this is a PRIVATE CHOICE and isn't really relevant in the Am. football section.
