I know it's a threat but is terrorism an extreme threat like GWB claims?

Terrorism, in and of itself, is a scare tactic. The overall goal is to keep society in fear, not solely for the sake of killing innocents. Even failed terrorist plots are enough to make governments and the public to act irrationally. Some acts of terror do not always end with casualties but such death is preferable as it adds to the severity of the act and gives noteriety to those responsible for it.

Terrorism is not a new phenomenon. In fact, we are more likely to be affected by home-grown, domestic terrorism than from that of foreigners.

real.

since the 70's there has been a real threat of terrorism, I can tell you back in the 80's it seemed almost every week there was a passenger plane being hijacked or some kind of attack especially in Beirut.

However terrorism is not new, in the 1920's there was a cell of anarchists who tried to blow up wall street.

The threat is real.

Some times I think it does seem a little over blown but the threat is really there.

I think some people are missing the point. Is terrorism a real threat? Yes, of course. Does it need to be in the forefront of your mind at all times? No.

Terrorism has always been a threat in this country.

It started in this country with groups such as the KKK who killed hundreds if not thousands of African Americans just because their skin color was black or brown.

For years the government would turn their backs, as they killed African Americans. This is a well documented historical fact.

The Islam extremist are a threat, but the United States Government is also a threat to Americans.

I refuse to live in fear of anyone whether they be the white so-called Christian extremist, or the so-called Islam extremist.

The objective of terrrorism is, as the name implies, to instill terror in a populace, so that said populace will ascede to the terrorists' demands.

To the extent that politicians use the spectre of terrorism as a 'scare tactic,' they actually advance the first part of that objective (instilling terror). To the extent that political leaders choose negotiation with or capitulation to terrorists, they advance the second part of that objective.

Between the Republicans enhancing the spread of terror, and the Democrats demanding capitulation, it's a miracle that the terrorists haven't won yet.

Terrorism has always been a threat to the US.

Instead of minimizing the threats, this adminstration increased it exponentially and even worse they are using it for political gain to stay in power.

I believe that it is a real threat, but it is used by politicians (not necessarily George Bush) far too frequently to entice Americans into thinking or voting a certain way. We should remain vigilant, but realize that some politicians have an agenda when they speak of these things.

Oh, yeah its a scare tactic created by Bush. Bush was behind the first WTC bombing and of course the USS Cole bombing. Oh, and he was responsible for the barracks bombing in Beirut and the 1972 Olympics terrorist act and all the hijackings up to and including 9/11. Get real, terrorism has been around for decades our leaders, until now, just choice to ignore it.

It's a scare tactic that was created by most politicians and government officials. GWB is just one turd in a very huge pile.
