Yes!
There are so many unemployed that want to work, but can't get a job. There should be more done to help get these people into work!
The other side of the coin, however, are the unemployed that are capable of work, but don't want to! More should be done to get these people to work also, as so many young, single, healthy people choose to live off the dole? I don't think it should be a choice!
Single parents raising a family, disabled, the elderly and people taking care of a disabled friend or relative, etc, should all be exceptions, but everyone else ought to be told that they would be financially penalised for not working when they realistically can!
Maybe they could be given food vouchers that could only be used on food and nothing else, ie, not cigarettes, alcohol, etc?!
If that happened, a lot of people would be forced to get jobs, and the Goverment could then concentrate on the genuinly unemployed through no fault of their own!

Yes. They ain't interested unless your 6 months unemployed. You can happily sign on for 6 months and all they do is look at your job diary. Then when the BIG 6 months comes up they hit you with crappy courses (for the government figures) so that they can say you are in training (as if you ain't still unemployed). The job centres should have deals with companies to take people on (oh it is hard by the way when you've not been working a while) as you lose confidence and you can get into a depressive rut.

Yes and No. They need to do more to meet the needs of the people who are unemployed because of circumstances beyond their control. But I know some people who don't work because they can draw money from the government if they don't. I think that's wrong.

It's not the government's job to create jobs. The only jobs they can create is more government jobs. I don't feel that we need bigger government. What they can do is cut taxes so that we have more money to spend. This boosts the economy and makes the private sector grow. This is what creates more jobs. If businesses are not prospering, they lay off workers. So what can the government do to help them prosper? Cut the income tax. Sales tax revenue will go up and cover the loss.

No I think the government should do less. I work hard for a living, working up to three jobs at one time, why should my taxes pay for someone who is chosing not to work??? If there is a logical reason (special needs), then sure, but for the people who just pop out kids to get extra gov money, or the ones who drink/do drugs all day, they should be working to support themselves!

Shouldn't the unemployed do more to meet the needs of their Country, - famous words "Think not what can your country do for you, but think what can I do for my country"!

Like what ? . . . there are 600,000 vacancies on the books in the UK as I write . . . they are there if you really want to work . . . draw your own conclusion. It may not be the best job in the world to begin with but it's a job and one job leads to another . . . self esteem, worth, satisfaction and pride are also the side benefits of being in work . . . it's not easy but it isn't impossible.

They relocated my job after 6 years and it took me a year to find a new one. so it would have been nice to have affordable insurance for that one year. I am lucky nothing bad happened to me at the time and that I am healthy.
