No I don't think it should be. That's what the book says and that's damn well what should be in the play .. If they don't like it don't do the play in the first f'ing place!
I came back to this .. Basically why are we sugar coating everything? It's not to make the kids feel better its to make the parents feel better about being **** parents and not bothering to teach their kids right from wrong ... Its the same bs with tv, video games, and books ... Everyones saying this or that is awful well if people would take the f'ing time to tell their kids that this or that is wrong we wouldn't have that problem .. But most parents can't be bothered or blamed for being dipshits
The word should be used otherwise the story has no meaning ... There's no cruelity to justify the point .... Therefore the story and moral of it have no meaning what so ever

It's just another way the media tries to make Islam the proverbial "bogey-man" Akhi When it's them, it's a tragedy When it's us, it's terrorists and extremism Personally I don't agree with this honour killing thing, Islam opens the door of redemption for all Muslims concerned and Tawbah is available to the Ummah until the first of the major signs fall upon mankind. Those who rebel leave them to Allah as the fault and disgrace are not with the family concerned but the individual subject to the controversy

I don't think they should take it out. Although we view it today as a racial slur, at the time the book was written it was everyday speech. Its a part of history and taking it out would ruin the entire concept. The book was about racial injustice. A black man couldn't get a fair trial because he was black. The word it not acceptable in today's society but it was acceptable at the time the book was written. I don't think it will do the play proper justice if we take it out.

Ignoring the past misdeeds does not equate to they never happened in the first place.
It astounds me that these events took place in my Grandparents life times and with the younger generation (on both sides of the issue) oblivious to the whole matter.
Racism, overt when illegal, becomes institutionalize where its harder to spot and correct.
Life was like life was.
Are we saying that the European settlers in the USA peacefully & fairly acquired the land from the Indians.

you're debating political correctness against historical integrity. I believe history should prevail, but not for racial reasons. If you remove the word, you deny that it ever existed, thus removing the implications of the words meaning and usage.

Wow. They are kind of taking away the whole point of the book aren't they? The book was about racial injustice, and if they take that word out, isn't it sort of like watering down history?

If we start there then we will have to continue with every piece of literature and songs. Then do we start to arrest people for even saying it?

It is not right for political correctness to attempt to change history.
