This no longer works, keeps giving message cannot findserver -he's rang Norton and still cant get it to work could it be the New Motherboard at fault Thanks in lieu

It won't be the motherboard.
One thing to check is the BIOS. When he first boots up his computer he'll likely see Press Del/F1/F2/F10 etc. to enter Setup. He may need to disable BootSector Virus Protector ... or a similar worded phrase.
Save the changes and then try to reinstall again.

Is the the full norton with child protection or just AV?
If its just AV it Sounds like the install failed. So remove the install including the live update bit and re install from scratch.
Its its Norton with protection etc, get rid, slows the pc down no end

Uninstall and Reinstall
He might have missed something in the instillation that was required when installing Norton...
Is his internet Connection Runnning???????

Not likely to be the motherboard.
If he can access the internet correctly, forget about Norton & go get the free version of AVG.
If he can't his network may be mis-configured.
