Lugo would be hard to get rid of, but could this work?

2007-10-30 05:52:29 · 12 answers · asked by Jes Won 6 in Sports Baseball

why would they want to? Only because he was the MVP last year, and he's one of the greatest hitters of this era, and he's going to break Barry home run record.

When people say "the team doesn't want him" these people have no idea of what they are talking about. Just because YOU don't want him, that doesn't mean the Red Sox organization doesn't want him.. Are you crazy? What are you going to do IF the Sox DO get A-Rod? Are you going to boo him because YOU don't want him on your favorite team?

I'm not asking if YOU want him in Boston, so please stop giving me answers to questions I did not ask.

people think that keeping Lowell is a given... IT IS NOT!!!! What if the Yankees offer him way more than Boston and he goes there? It is a business, and if they offered you more money for doing the exact same thing you already do, wouldn't YOU take it? I really think after winning the World Series MVP, Lowell is not going to stay in Boston. He will get better offers elsewhere.

Put the emotions and anti-A-Rod stuff aside for a minute.
Think about this. Lowell at third. Rodriguez at short. Lugo and Crisp traded for a young pitcher. Schilling's salary gone. Ellsbury in center hitting #1 with Padroia behind him. A-Rod with Ortiz hitting behind him in Fenway will hit 70 homers, Manny behind Ortiz as usual with Youklis behind him.
I'm a Yankee fan but I gotta tell you, if I'm the Red Sox, this is a no brainer.

i don't think that the red sox could sign both of these players, because despite how deep their pockets are, it would get too extravagant considering they just won the world series without having that. the bottom line is they are likely not going to offer lowell want he wants in terms of years in a contract, which is ridiculous considering he was the team leader in rbi's.

to the fans who think that having a-rod would be a bad thing: do you think that you would have lost the world series if a-rod were on your team with lowell? of course not, you would have swept the playoffs. who cares about lugo, he can sit on the bench. anyways, i hope that this doesn't happen because baseball would not be interesting at all for 2-3 years.

To me, I don't think you try to alter a good thing by throwing out what will be an obscene amount of money, when you can re-sign the third baseman you already have and make him a cornerstone to your team's future at a far reduced cost.

Lugo would be very difficult to get rid of, no doubt...but, the thought is that these big free agent signees and/or trades generally improve in their second seasons in Boston, so whether it be going on blind faith or not, one can only hope Julio Lugo and J.D. Drew follow that reasoning and put up far better numbers next year.

Potentially A-rod and Lowell could play for the Sox. Lowell at 3rd and A-rod at SS. But, A-rod and Boston do not mix. A-rod will be in Chicago next year(Cubs).

There has been talk to that notion already. Alex is a natural shortstop and although Lugo is in the position currently theres nothing to say that the RedSox wouldn't trade him. Lowell has become a fan favorite and his resigning is imminent.

They could but why? They are winning without him so why break the bank to get him when you don't need him. I could see it maybe if they were still desperately looking to win that elusive championship, but they have two in the last 4 years without him so they obviously do not need him to get over the top.

To me they are better off re-signing Lowell and keep the cash that they would have spent on A-Rod on hand to pay guys like Pedroia, Papelbon, and Youkilis as they come up for arbitration and free agency over the next couple of years.

No, the Red Sox should re-sign Lowell and forget A-Rod.

The Red Sox have built their history on using underpaid players to achieve greatness. The A-Rod contract would be too much for us, we could sign 5 guys with half his ego and twice his talent if we just look around

Why would they want to? Pay-Rod would be the kiss of death.
