You would probably have to sign some papers or something but I bet there are MANY organizations that help the elderly and crippled to do this very thing. Talk to some of them. They fund raise to buy equipment for this purpose.

There should be a listing with your local council. As you haven't specified your area I can't be more specific, but locally we have a mobility shop which rent out wheel chairs and those mobility riders for the elderly.
