I only have a TV because my wife and kids watch it i only watch some news and odd documentary and that's it.
As i find on TV the most unintelligent, stupid rubbish that is available in the world today.
TV has got worse over time because it comes down to profit and advertising money ,so they will stick on any thing they think will entertain a lot of morons,Then they made reality TV shows but where is the reality.
The TV is now used to brain wash the people into spending money they don`t have and to get a politician into your home
I would spend less than an 1/2 hour a day watching the silly box (TV).

Try this. Keep your TV just don't watch cable or even get rabbit ears. See Commercials and the like have been proven to have a negative effect on fitness and diet. Ever since I was deployed over seas I have not had a TV with any kind of reception on it. All it can do is watch Movies which have no commercials and have a definite end, (eg you cant go on clicking through channels ad naseum). I Highly suggest it. I haven't seen TV ( besides a cursory glance at a bar) in over 5 years and I don't miss it.

I do have a TV, 3 in fact!, but a friend of mine does not, she just found it just gathered dust and only went on 1-2 times a week, so she got rid, she even has kids (in their late teens now but they all got used it and it was less of a battle them doing their homework apparently).
If you think you can live without it, do a trial run, take the TV to a friends house and try it for a month or so, if you can't do it you can get the TV back, if you don't miss it, get rid!

I have several TVs in my house and personally my husband and I just watch Discovery channel and TLC. Our son is starting to show interest in preschool programming but Im very aware of what he's watching and if I do not find it educational I'll change the channel. Im s ure some people dont have TV's its a personal choice.

Hardly anything worth watching on it anymore. Just a semi large sum of money spent on digital cable with not so interesting programming

I wouldn't get rid of the telly because I would still want to watch BBC News 24. I used to use the pc and then listen to Radio 4 at night before I met my wife. But we've watched some good programmes like 'Life On Mars' and we enjoy 'CSI' and 'The Catherine Tate Show'. Telly is mostly crap but it does have the odd programme or two that makes it worth keeping. Totally up to you though - you are an individual at the end of the day.

I have a TV now, but when I was a child - about 12, my mum decided to get rid of the TV. My sisters and I were outraged, and found it really annoying that we didn't know what the other kids were talking about at school when they were discussing TV shows.
My mum lasted about 5 months before getting a new TV.

We have a TV, but we don't have cable or satillite or anything else. We just watch movies. We got sick of paying $50 a month for 200 channels, four of which we watched regularly! On top of that, the children's programming is so terrible it borders on worthless. I will not have a couch potato for a toddler. It's kindof our hobby to go to garage sales and flea markets to find VHS movies for a dollar. We've amassed quite a collection thus far. My son has most of the Thomas the Tank Engine videos, some Blue's Clue's, and Sing-along-songs. It works out for us.

I have a few shows here and there I watch. I'd say I watch about 30 minutes to an hour and a half a day.

I've lived without a TV before, but I'd miss it because I like to watch DVDs from time to time.

Now if I had to go without the Net that's totally different.

I hardly watch TV these days either unless there is something good on (rarely) Just don't want to be one of these people who just get home from work, sit in front of the tv all night watching whatever mindless drivel that happens to be on. I have enough going on, and enough interests in my own life to keep me entertained! Getting rid of your TV is probably a good idea! TV tends to kill conversation in families and breaks down family bonds. Hell I think I might just go home and get rid of mine! You've got me thinking! Great question! Here's to a TV free existence!
