It depends on a few things. If you have a big-*** ox ring in your septum, then there's probably no way to get by with it. But it's easier to pull off a small, indiscreet stud. Ethnic nose rings, like the kind many Indian and Pakistani women wear, can be very beautiful and accepted in the workplace.

You also want to be careful with the rest of your appearance. If you have something edgy like a nose piercing, you can get away with it if your clothes are professional or nice. Keep the rest of you appearance toned down and it probabnly wont be seen as a big deal.

Mostly I think that a pierced nose does not look professional. If they have a pierced nose and take it out during work then that is fine. However, I have to say that in certain professions like graphic artist or photographer it would not be that big of a deal. I kinda expect from people in artistic professions and as long as it was kept small then I would see it as neutral. Meaning not appropriate but also not inappropriate.

ok.. I honestly have all 3 piercings.. i in my view got here upon my cartilage the main painful.. it grew to become into pierced with a needle and everytime i alter the stud its confusing and painful.. and it isnt contaminated. My navel piercing grew to become into in all probability extra painful than it could have been because of the fact the lady piercing it couldnt clamp it appropriate, yet often that's intended to be the least painfful out of the three. And as long as you preserve it sparkling, no longer something will take place to you, they're all only thoughts! The nostril isn't too undesirable for soreness.. its a speedy piercing and evidently rather stable..it heals without postpone advert its something distinctive from what maximum human beings have. looking after all 3 rather use a answer of rock salt and heat water and gently bathtub the piercing 2-thrice an afternoon.. you should use antiseptic spray which include dettol.. that's god to boot because of the fact the salt water. the ultimate places to get it carried out is a piercing parlour.. someplace that's sparkling and characteristic a licience. universal, i could decide for the nostril or abdomen button piercing because of the fact they harm much less, are extra unusual and look rather stable. wish this helps =)

While I agree that a certain amount of personal freedom is permittted to everyone, in any career...

Facial piercings are first and foremost, a distraction. People with any kind of physical difference (oddly colored hair, visible tattoos, excessive or facial piercing, extreme cosmetics, unusual clothing, and sadly, disabilities) can detract from the message being provided.

Additionally, because tattoos and piercings are a fairly new trend, and more espoused by young people -- a professional with a piercing might be seen as less mature than her peers. As if she hadn't yet 'grown up' and become the responsible adult that the company needs to conduct business.

I would say that if you want to be taken seriously, leave the distracting appearance choices for the weekends.

I work in a doctor's office lab and I have my nose pierced. I wear a tiny little diamond and it's totally a non-issue for me. We also have two receptionists who have pierced noses and nobody has made a big deal out of it at all. It's accepted probably because its such a big trend. Also, my son had to go to the hospital for a broken bone the other day and I noticed two the nurses in the orthopedic wing had pierced noses, and had RN after their names on their badges. Evidently that was ok there, too.
As for the people who responded sooo negatively, think about the trends that have become mainstream norm, like hair bleaching, for example. At one time, being a "bottle blonde" was a frowned upon thing. Now everybody pays big bucks for "highlights" and color. Wasn't that a "trashy" thing to do a few decades ago?

There are only a few professions that I can think of that would be conducive to wearing any facial piercings. Most professional women in the real sense of the phrase, would not wear one.
You asked for our true feelings and I will tell you: No one I know, would ever hire someone with a facial piercing, even if it was empty.

Discusting. Professional or otherwise. Even with strict equal opportunities laws, I would not employ any person with nose or face piercings on the grounds that they offend some people. I refuse to use a checkout if the clerk has piercings. They make me sick.

I believe a stud or something less visible, but I very liberal about these things. My friend has one and tend to forget she has it on after couple of days. A ring or loop would be a big no no. In some indian cultures it is customary to have a nose stud, so I guess you could use this excuse.

i think pierced noses are very common now and as long as the person doesn't have anything large or something that stands out too much in their nose (say a ring or a huge stud) it's fine.

but most employers are conservative snobs who don't realize the changing modern world and refuse to recognize that a sparkly on your nose doesn't make you trash.

:D

Although on some people nose piercing does look nice I think it's definitely unprofessional looking. It's hard to take someone seriously when you're looking at the loop in their nose.
