People who claim that druids are overpowered kinda amuse me. We've had to claw our way up (pun intended) from being everyone's poor cousin to where we are now. Even still, anyone who appears OP as a druid is probably due to the player's skill.
Druids are the kings of flexibility - with the right gear (and time to change), I can fill in for a rogue, protection warrior, or priest. I might not have all the tricks that the primary classes have, but a rogue can't grab a runaway mob very well when the tank dies (evasion tanking notwithstanding), nor can a warrior toss extra heals after their mob dies.
It's a tough class to play, and you'll probably have to fight other players' attitudes as well as fighting the game - but it's also *really* rewarding.

Every class is good when played by someone who knows how to play that class.
Druid is fun; you can cast magic, heal, and shapeshift into animals who are strong at melee (bear form is kind of like a warrior, cat form is kind of like a rogue). If you spec balance, you can get a moonkin form, which is a more powerful caster (and also has more armor). Later, at level 68, you can get flight form, so you can fly in Outlands without a mount (only with the Burning Crusade expansion pack). And there is travel form, where you run faster without a mount (although not as fast as a mount). And aquatic form, so you can swim without needing to breathe. It's pretty fun, lots of different options.
Try it out; if you like it, keep going (shapeshifting starts at level 10, so at least give it until then). If you don't, try a new class. Everyone likes something different.

Best thing to do is just start a toon and play it for 5 levels and see how you like it. You don't start your "talents" with that toon until level 10, but you can look at the "talent trees" when you make the toon and see what you have to look forward to with that toon. I like to stand back and cast spells. So I have a 70 holy (my talent) Priest. No one but you will figure out what class you like to play until you play them all and figure it out. If you don't like it after at least 5-10 levels then move on. If you want to be in the action you can be a rouge or warrior! There are so many classes and talents to those classes that make each one unique. I suggest going to websites associated with WoW and the specific class to get an idea of what sounds interesting to you then try it out! For me any class you play can get frustrating until around level 20. I have played them all and as I said only the casters are the ones that are Higher level now! Good luck!
