moles = mass / molecular weight

mass = 100 g

molecular weight = ????

once you know molecular weight, you can calculate moles

It depends on the substance in question. The number of moles of 100 grams of carbon is different from the number of moles of 100 grams of silicon.

It depends what element or molecule you are talking about. Grams are a unit of mass. A mole is a number (6E23) atoms/molecules (or really anything).

See that does not work....you need to specify grams of what? Grams of carbon? nitrogen? etc etc. Once you supply that, all you do is divide by the molar mass of the element to get to moles.
