Inept? possibly, corrupt? certainly.

As early as the 1980s US State Dept staffers stationed at the embassy in Kurachi were observed purchasing opium from street peddlers for personal consumption.

CIA staffers, easily identified by locals and NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) staffers were also observed attempting (without much success) to infiltrate "terrorist cells" - poppy farmers and anyone else sufficiently 'subversive' to dare oppose the wishes of the military junta (still in-power).

This junta was created at the behest of US military industrialists who backed the violent radicals in Islam and NOT the followers of the TRUE teachings of Islam. The violent radicals portrayed on US TV were brought together by the CIA to wage a proxy war against Soviet oil/gas interests in Afghanistan so Bush's Chevron buddies could run a line unopposed straight from the fields of northern Afghanistan, through Pakistan to the warm water port of Gwadar on the Indian Ocean.

And with insider help in the (then) defunct Soviet Union - they'd take over the massive fields surrounding the Caspian Sea.

Heck, even Bush Sr. buddies Weinberger, Baker and Haig were breaking the US embargo against oil trade with Iran - attempting to deal heavy Caspian crude to Iranian refineries in-exchange for refined product shipping out of the port of Abadan.

Now, comes the official revelation of missing BILLIONS of US tax dollars in State Dept/DOD transactions throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan.

Money which was to (reportedly) go to civilian aid programs and infrastructure reconstruction turns up missing. A US State Dept staffer 'blows the whistle' and is punished for 'doing the right thing' (eg: her legal duty) while US weapons merchants and their foreign clients suddenly are making large deposits to numbered bank accounts in Switzerland, the Bahamas and Cayman Islands.

Interestingly enough: A number of pipelines and US military security installations are under construction along a route throughout Iraq, Afghanistan and into the former Soviet republics.

Bush and Cheny are placating the ('Patriot') missile manufacturer by recreating the Cuban Missile Crisis and relocating these missiles to Poland and the Cheq Republic.

Keep buying those SUVs and drag racing or 'drifting' in your city streets kids. Pretty soon it'll be YOUR turn to 'see the world' from the doors of a Chanute or Hummer.

And rest assured you may not be seeing a lot of sand - it could be mountain passes. Check out this article for a view to your future. http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/4/15/52426/4048
