What I am looking 4
- Iam more of a hip-hop r&b focused, so if the school focuses on that mainly then I'll perfer it more then anything else

-Location of the school doesn't matter, only that it must be in the United States. I aiming for California or Florida, but if the better school is some where else thats ok.

-MFA is the master degree for performing arts, and much more perfered degree for me then MA, which focuses less on the dancing part. Just wanted to put that in there

Since your one other question was in the Homework Help section, my sense is that you're in high school, in which case you'd be looking for a BFA degree, not an MFA. After high school, you first earn an undergraduate (bachelors) degree, and AFTER you get that, you can then go onto graduate school for the masters degree.

"Good" is a very relative term because it all depends on where you've been (your training background) and where you're going (what you want to do with dance). And, I'm sorry to say, there are no college programs that focus on hip hop because that is too narrow of a focus in terms of artistic scope. That would be like looking for an English program in hopes of studying Harry Potter. In any academic study, you need to learn about what's happened in the past in order to prepare for making contributions to that field in the future.

The best advice I can offer you without knowing your background and goals is to get hold of the Dance Magazine College Guide that describes almost all of the college programs.

If you don't have a strong background in ballet, then you won't be able to consider a program that requires auditions for admission. (Which totally rules out Juilliard.) Most BFA programs require an audition; most BA programs do not. If a program doesn't require an audition, it is highly unlikely to be good enough to prepare you for a performing career, if that is what you're aiming for. (CSU-Fullerton only offers a BA in Dance and it looks as though it is a non-audition program.)

Because of your interest in hip hop, you're best bet would be with a program that includes a strong emphasis in jazz, but that still won't guarantee that your jazz classes will include hip hop. My daughter is a senior dance major at a top-ranked program that offers a triple emphasis in ballet, modern and jazz and in order for her to get more experience in hip hop, she joined the hip hop club.

You might want to check out the University of Arts. They have a strong Jazz Dance major within their School of Dance.

Best of luck to you.
