The Elantra is not a turbo. It already has a simple cold air intake. There is a duct coming out of the front of the airbox going up to the top of the front radiator support. This means the engine is pulling air from under the lip of the hood where it's gone around the radiator, not through it. Not really worth it to do a bunch of mods to the intake for what you'll gain for street use.

First, I'm wondering why someone who has "no clue about cars" would need an air intake!
Second, I'm wondering why your father bought you one! Was it a birthday gift? If so, was it for you or your car? ;)
Third, why don't you take the air intake (!) to your local car parts dealer, and ask them this question!
Fourth, did your father give you a receipt for the air intake? If the info isn't on that receipt, then, may I suggest that you return it and get something you really want or need?

You can make custom intakes for a car. It just needs to fit onto your throttle body and not leak, as well as have connections for any hoses that need to be connected. Being able to close the hood and have the intake not interfere with anything are also some considerations.
I would recommend buying one specific for your vehicle, as more than likely they have been tested to actually improve your engine's performance. One that is not designed for your vehicle may not, though.
The object of an air intake is to bring in more air volume as well as maybe trying to bring in cooler air. Cooler air is more dense, which means more oxygen.

Take heed. every car of this type has a computer to control the mix. If you put the wrong intake onto your car it may run like a pig, either too rich or too lean. If you insist using it then get a tuning shop to set the mixture.

Get your money back. You would not notice any difference in performance. Start learning about cars if your going to play with them. After you start learning you will learn that Toyota's are a waste of time modifying. There alright for everyday use,but a waste of time trying to make them go faster.

They are usually vehicle specific and engine specific..V-8 air intake will not work on a 4 cylinder engine....go on line to Jegs.com or Summitracing.com put in your year/make/model and it will give you a list of engine accessories as well as other accessories that fit your vehicle

most intakes look like a box now-a-days, all you have to do is take that off then use you best judgement to install the intake.
