Can somebody help me understand this?

Help me understand this article. http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/10/30/cheney.hunting.ap/index.html. Since when does the confederate flag equal lynching, hate and murder to black people? I'm not from the south (MI born and raised) and I can see that the flag is a symbol of heritage not hate. I guess we shouldn't fly the Italian flag because some Italian's are in organized crime. (BTW I am an Italian American) Wake up people! Take a stand and take back your freedoms. Sure is going to suck living in a world that is so cleansed of anything that might offend someone.... Oh wait... We already do... Time for a change!
