Laptops are not nearly as powerful as desktops, which is where your problem comes in. Slower processors, less RAM, and a weaker graphics card are all culprits.

However, these may help a little:

- turn off virus scanner, internet connection, and any background process
- check out the game options (while you're playing) and turn down all the settings: no shadows, slower refresh rate, no neighbor houses visible, no special events camera ... basically, make everything the lowest it can possibly be
- play only small families on small lots; try not to visit downtown but make a small community lot for shopping

The first poster covered almost everything, but I thought I'd also mention that Maxis made Sims games that were especially designed to run on laptops because they are less demanding on the system:

The games are really just demanding on your system. Did your system meet their list of minimum requirements? You really need even higher than the basic requirements they set to run the game. I have a higher-end desktop, and I still get lags sometimes. You need an excellent video card, a lot of ram, and a fast processor to run them well.

I'd suggest trying the Sims Stories games that are more laptop-friendly.

My sister plays on her laptop all the time and it works faster than mine does on my desktop. Granted she has fewer expansion packs installed, but she's never had a problem.

laptops will work but they have less space, they r slower, and it has to have a dvd drive (if its the sims 2 which is sooooooooooooooooo much better)
