Get it from Sears if you can. If not Sears try the Makita series.

You should choose a circular over a table saw. When it comes to cutting studs and general home improvement projects, the circular is the most versatile. I'd agree going with Sears. Craftsman tools have a lifetime warranty and are very durable.

If you are interested in a good cross between a circular saw and a table saw - and are willing to invest some $ - you should take a look at the Festool TS55 plunge saw. It looks like a circular saw, but it of the highest quality. Also comes with a 55" guide rail, making it a portable panel saw. Hook it up to a vacuum and the dust collection is fantastic. You get a splinter-free cut from this professional-grade saw, which you cannot get with regular circular saws and table saws.

That one dude is right about craftsman they no longer warranty their products like they used to. but really there is no one best power tool, you need to decide on what type of work you will be focusing on. If you like building sheds, and garages, or roughing in for remodeling, then a circular saw is for you. if you want to build coffee tables and some furniture, than a table saw is the way to go. Equipment by dewalt and makita are more than sufficient for the basic home owner needs, but if you are going to start a business or do more than the average homeowner you might want to step up to a contractor's brand like bosch, or my favorite, porter cable.

Circular saw is most reasonable to me. It can be used anywhere and for many different things. The table saw would be OK, if it is just the table and you can take the circular out when you need to.-- you can always use saw horses or something else to put your boards on before you saw......xx

circular saw's are a lot more versatile than a stationary table saw. they are also less money. unless you are doing very precise cuts for cabinets or moldings a circular saw would be my choice. you can still be very accurate with a circular saw.
i really like all things made by Dewalt. a few extra bucks but you can't beat the quality.

If you are going to be using it mostly for stud walls then get a chop saw.
Table saws are to hard to handle for this sort of thing but are good for ply-wood and cutting boards length-wise.
I would suggest getting something by DeWalt.

Craftsman POWER tools DO NOT have a lifetime warranty.......
I'd go with a Good Circular saw to start myself.

I too would recommend a circular saw, and would recommend Hitachi.
Several years ago they had a table accessory you could clip your saw to, and convert it into a bench.
That would be an option to consider exploring.
