In the UK you need to be seperated for two years before you can get a divorce with mutual consent, but if you wish to speed things up you one of you can claim unreasonable behaviour so that the divorce can be sorted out quiickly.

It depends on the state but typically, as soon as you decide to call it quits and file the paperwork, the divorce process begins. There's legal reasons for needing to file quickly as some states do not recognize a separation without filing for legal separation which means you're still responsible for one another's debts.

Some states will have a cool off period (California's is six months) before the judge will finalize the divorce. This gives the couple time to reconsider and choose not to dissolve the marriage. As for how long the actual divorce takes, it depends on the state, how amiable the divorce is and how quickly you can get all your ducks in a row. Child custody cases can take longer and can be a separate case from the divorce itself.

Can i assume that you live in the UK? If so you can file for divorce straight away and so long as it was on good terms you can just say you drifted apart from each other.
Once you have filed this at your end make sure your ex to be is aware of this and he should say the same when the papers arrive. You could be divorced in less than 8 months.

You just need to get into the court house and file a divorce paper. You can also go online and do it that way,. You dont have to wait any time to start this process and the sooner you get it over with the sooner you can both get on with your lives. It is wonderful that you parted on good terms and that will make the process go even smoother.

It depends on what state you live in. In NJ, you have to be separated for 18 months before you file for an amicable divorce, but in Nevada it's only a few weeks (or at least it was in 2003). I would talk to a lawyer or legal aide to find out what the laws are in your state.

Depends can be over in weeks if both parties agree

I know a couple who have been fighting each other for divorce for 12 years

They were married 20 years ago and split 12 years ago so they have spent more time apart in their marriage than together

After 6 months of living separated, you can file for divorce if its on good terms will take less than 6 months but if not it will take more than 1 year, good luck!

Depends on the state where you live. My divorce in LA required us to live apart for 6 months. Some states may have no waiting period, I really don't know.

It certainly does depend where you live, I live in the UK and to have an uncontested divorce like yours you have to live apart fro two years before applying for a divorce.
