A friend of mine is almost full Native American & he was wondering if he could get money from it because someone he talked to is only about half Native American & he gets a nice amount of cash from the Government. Is this possible & if it is where would my friend look to get the money?

To get money for being Native one must be enrolled in their tribe. I've wrote how to begin that process below. Please know that not all Natives get money. The money doesn't come from the government but from the tribe. And most tribes don't make enough money to hand out to the tribal members individually. Instead the money goes to healthcare programs, educational programs, etc... Becoming enrolled just to get money is also offensive and inappropriate.

Information on how to become enrolled is listed below:

To become enrolled in one's tribe is often a difficult process. Once one is enrolled one will have certain rights as a Native person. It is true that no one needs to prove their ethnic identity but to have full access to rights for Native people one must be enrolled.

To become enrolled one must first should call one's tribe and find out the enrollment requirements. They are different per tribe.
For most tribes you have to prove descendency and have a certain blood quantum. To prove descendency one needs to have some record of her belonging to a member of the tribe that was recognized by the tribe at some point, hopefully an individual that was enrolled at some point. The average blood quantum standard is 1/4. Unless you are Cherokee, their blood quantum standards are much less.

If you don't have contact with your tribal member then you can ask the tribe to look for his last name. They can look this up and see if his family line is registered. If so then your in luck. If they don't immediately find it then you can use the tribal newspaper and submit an article asking if anyone has lineage to your tribal member .

Many Native people can never become enrolled because standards of enrollment are high and were set up by the White government to oppress Native people and Native people have yet to change them.

To become more involved in one'sculture one might want to look up local Native organizations or local tribes. Try going to Pow-wow's (because they are easy to find) and talk to community members there. Many colleges/universities have a Native student union where one can get involved or get more information.

Please remember ancestry is very difficult for many Native people.

By the way, I am Native, so I have some knowledge pertaining to this.

Native American Money

The percentage doesn't matter where money is concerned above a certain percentage. Trust me I am 50% Native American, my mother is as close to 100% as you can get and we are entitled to the same amount of money.

The difference is that I refuse to take the money and she doesn't.

Oh and how is it possible that your almost full blood friend wasn't aware of this?? Also I assume your friend is on the indian rolls? If not then he will have to prove that he is in fact native american

INDIVIDUAL AMERICAN INDIANS DO NOT GET MONEY FROM THE GOVERNMENT! Sorry for yelling but it is just not true. That being said, some tribes do give money to their tribal members. Again, that money does not come from the US government but the tribal government and only to its tribal members. If your friend and your friend's friend are enrolled with a tribe that gives per capita payments they'll get money. BTW, this money is usually excess revenue from the tribe's economic enterprises (casinos, mineral royalties, etc.). This money might appear as if it comes from the US Government since they have to approve the payments but it does not come out of the US Governments account, it comes out of the tribe's account. If the tribe your friend is enrolled in does not give per capita payments then he won't get any money.

This gov has never been fare. The true Natives are the Olmec Xi which are the so called African American who never got a dime. These Native names given where made up . And the so called Mexican and other black Latines including Jamaica and the carabi which means savage are also Olmec Xi . This confusion was created so they wouldn't have to give you money. By calling yourself by different names it assured you would not receive your rightful funds. This is a currupt govt. your birth certificate is a bond of which our govt is getting paid on and none of us knew. Do the research.
