I am only 33 weeks, and when I called the office, the nurse doubted that I lost my plug (but is asking the doctor and will call me back) but without an exam they won't know right? And if you lose your plug, do you start dilating? This is my second, but it has been a while since my first...
My concern is that I work at a pool and even though I normally don't get in the water, I am scheduled to be in the water with a class tomorrow.
When you lost your plug did your doctor say it was okay to swim? I am of course waiting to hear from my doctor, but just am wondering. If I lost my plug, could I be dilating a little bit? I was 3cm dilated with my first at my first check at 36 weeks. Is there anyway to be sure you lost your plug without seeing the doctor?

My post makes sense... I was 3 cm dilated at 36 weeks with MY FIRST PREGNANCY. This is my second pregnancy.

You are only at risk for infection once your water breaks. Losing your mucus plug, if indeed you did, will not put you at risk if you swim or get in a pool.
Losing the mucus plug does not necessarily occur simultaneously with dilation, especially for second-time mothers. Many don't start dilating until much closer to actual labor.

i have only ever heard that you cannot go swimming if your water broke.
from what i understand you can lose your mucus plug and have the waters in tact for quite awhile.
and losing your plug does not mean you are dilating. i lost my plug with my second child and went into the hospital the next morning still not even at a 1... although i delivered 4 hours after being there (i dilate fast)
but i would also wait for the doctor to call you back.

The mucus plug comes out when you start dilating. If you have lost it, it is no longer blocking the opening to your cervix. You and the baby are at risk for infection if you go swimming. While the risk is less if your amniotic sac is still intact, there is still a possibility of infection.

You are fine to swim and take baths until you water breaks.
Although your post doesn't make sense - you say you were 33 weeks, yet you were checked at 36 weeks and were dilated to 3cm? It's not adding up. . .

I didn't lose my mucus plug until I was in labor, so I definitely wouldn't have been going into water unless I was having a water birth. I think I'd get scheduled to see your ob and ask to opt out of the water works until you know for certain.

i would guess that you didn't lose your plug. It doesn't usually happen that early and toward the ending of a pregnancy you seem to lose more cervical mucus than you normally would. This is probably what you lost. I would say you are ok to go in the water, just pay attention to your body.

I would not go in the water. A shower is fine, but not a bath or pool. the plug is what stops all the stuff and germs from the outside world from getting near baby

It is a good thing you called you doctor because I don't know. Once your water has broken you are not supposed to swim.

Nope, you can't have sex because of infection dangers. Congrats on your upcoming arrival, it sounds like the baby will be here soon. I know what you mean about wanting just one more nigh of intimacy before baby comes...hopefully the six weeks will fly right by.

Yes. Everything stays sterile until your water breaks. You're fine.
