Charles Allen III for a boy and Charlotte Abigail for a girl?
Of course the boy's name is my husband's name and the girl's name is Charlotte (the female form of Charles) and Abigail because it is a biblical name....a guy at my work overheard me telling someone the names we have chosen for our unborn child and HE STARTED LAUGHING?!!! He was mocking my unborn child's name?!!!

Blondie..I know the trend is to name your child unique names now but I am definitely into the old fashioned (formal) names and in 20 years I have a feeling what I am naming my child will be what is considered unique...fads pass...

I'm baffled by your colleague's reaction. Not only was it rude, he's off base.
Yes, names like Hayden and Jayla, Mileigh and Kayzen are hot right now, but they won't be forever. My guess? In 30 years, a lot of those kids will be known as H. James, J. Elizabeth and M. Marie on their business cards.
Charlotte or Charles can choose a super trendy nickname - Carlee if she must; Chaz if he is so inclined - and still have a formal name to fall back on. And to put on their diploma.
Plus, while it is possible that the next pop tart to wallpaper a tabloid rack could be named Kaileigh, I doubt she'll be known as Charlotte. I'm sure there are a bunch of moms to Britneys out there wishing they'd gone with Elizabeth.
Stick to your guns. Er, your names, that is. They're lovely. And your co-worker is a bit of an a$$.

Nothing wrong with the names in the least. Charles and Charlotte are both classic, timeless choices ... of course!
Perhaps your coworker is simply more the trendy, misspelled Aydynn, Braidyann, Kaydin type, and traditional names strike him as odd? LOL Or he may have mistakenly thought you were implying those were the names you would use for TWINS, or that whichever version wasn't used at this time would be saved for a future sibling (giving them literally the male and female forms of the same exact name). ;) And this is just speculation -- obviously I love the fact that these are both classic choices -- but perhaps he was just overly delighted in the fact that your husband was able to talk you into naming your child after him, in full or nearly so, regardless of gender. After all, some egotistical men get off on just that sort of thing, so he may have simply found it amusing that your husband had "duped" you into agreeing to this, thereby ensuring his little namesake. In other words, he may not have been mocking the names at all. They may have just tickled his fancy. ;)
There's really no telling, short of asking him about his reaction.
Edited to add: Concering the comments regarding these being "too old-fashioned" or simply not the norm at the moment, they're actually both very common choices -- Charles nearly in the top 50 and Charlotte just out of the top 100. Not odd in the least. After all, there are still plenty of parents that DON'T jump on the trendy names bandwagon. Traditional doesn't automatically equal unusual. ;)

I really like the names, but I'm not a fan of naming children after their parents because it can get confusing. I don't care for the 'third' part of the boy's name, or the fact that you'll have a Charles and a Charlotte in the house (father and daughter), but I can't believe your coworker laughed at you! How rude!
I have some ideas for you for different names. If you don't want any ideas, feel free to ignore, of course. I kept the initials the same so you would still have the theme going on. You could think about:
For girls:
Caroline Abigail -Caroline is a variant of Charles, so she would be named after her father, but in a less obvious way.
Cecilia Ariel -Ariel is a name from the bible meaning "lion of god", and Cecilia is another classic sounding name to think about, which was also the name of a saint.
Catherine Adah -Pretty, classic name that has a ton of nickname choices. Adah is a biblical name meaning "adornment".
For boys:
Caleb Andrew -This way, he shares the initals of his father, but has his own name.
Calvin Aaron -Same initials, but with Aaron for a biblical name.
Clancy Allen -This is my favorite for you for a boy, because Clancy means the same thing as Charles, and he would still have his dad's middle name.

Charles Allen is cute
Charlotte Abigail is cute, I like Charlotte better than Charles
Here's my question, your husband is Charles Allen III, what happens if you get a girl, Charlotte this time. Get pregnant again with a boy. Who your husband want him to be Charles Allen IV?
Other wise Charlotte is pretty

There is nothing wrong with either of the names you have. Charles Allen III does sound a bit old fashioned to me but it's soooo much better than the common, faddy ones like Braydon etc....
Charlotte Abigail is lovely, but I'd spell it Abigaile.
They will never age or sound sound common.
Hope I've helped.

I prefer old fashioned names, I don't think there is anything funny about either name you have chosen, perhaps just the III after the boys name is a little (forgive me) pretentious sounding, like a royal or something. I don't mean to offend you by that, the names themselves are great.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with those names, some people are just jerks. Charlotte is a very pretty name imo, and Charlie would be cute for a little boy.

There's nothing wrong with those names. I'm not a fan of having a Jr., II, or III......but the name itself is fine.

I think the names are nice. So what if he laughed at them?? Not everyone is going to like the names. Its all a matter of opinion. All that matters is what you think of the names.
