Open your browser and then click Help and then About Internet Explorer.
I'm not a fan of IE 7, but it is way more secure then IE 6, and it does have tabbed browsing.

In Internet Explore click on Help and then about Internet Explore. It well tell you which version you have.
Better then? Better then 6 maybe only a little. Better then FireFox (I would say maybe a little).
The only real reason is just for the tabs. The security is a little better, but more holes probably exsits

from explorer Help>About...
7 is not the best....
try fierfox instead of explorer
