If you mean carnations, they are considered perennials and should come back next year. After the first hard frost trim back the dead stuff and mulch a bit to protect them from drying out over the winter. They should come back next year, so be sure you know where they are and don't pull them thinking they're weeds.

Just give them a little trimming now and they will be fine in winter, even in harsh cold temperatures. You'll have flowers again next year. In fact, it's a rather strong little plant.

do you mean carnations? if so - Watch for carnation rust and aphids using dusts in preference to sprays during winter. continue to propogate perpetual flowering carnations by cuttings, and pot up rooted cuttings.
