I can understand on some answers, but why the thumbs down on an answer that isn't mean or anything?

Some people give a thumb down when an opinion is asked and they do not agree with you but that is not the purpose of thumbs down. They should be given if the answer is erroneous or vulgar.

I only give a thumbs down when answers are mean & hateful or when the answerer is just answering to get 2 points. Like for example an "I don't know". I don't give a thumbs down just because I don't agree with someone's opinion but I would imagine there are those out there that do.

I had wondered about that myself. I saw in a question about how best to write a statement 20 thumbs down in a row. I promptly thumbs up 19 of them-I did not thumbs up my own-and left a statement about there being a troll on the prowl.
Perfectly honest and valid answers do not deserve a thumbs down.

I just thumbs up 15 answers above me to offset uncalled for thumbs down.
I just thumbs up two answers below me for the same reason. Meanwhile I got two thumbs down? Thank you someone for the thumbs up. 8:)

this is true, i've seen some thumbs down on answers that was just plain - not meaing anything, i have never thumbs down an answer - i c no point - now thumbs up yes, a good answer is a good answer, even a stupid answer is a good answer

I don't know, I only give thumbs up to really cool answers and nothing to just normal answers, and if the answer is really really stupid or doesn't make sense, I give it a thumbs down but that's pretty rare. So whoever is doing it is just doing it for fun.
