I am on dial up and was wondering if I terminate these processes, will it speed up my computer? Will I defeat my purpose because of the warning its shows? Just seems like a lot running at one time. Please help. Thank you.

Actually, it depends which processes are running. It's not wise to go into the task manager and randomly shut down processes because this creates a malfunction within the computer. Trust me. I thought it would speed up my computer awhile back and it actually loaded Windows incorrectly.

For a computer, 54 processes is actually typical. If you know which programs you want to shut down (like AIM or MSN), you can end those processes without actually going to the program itself to close it. Task manager is also used if a program fails to respond after a moment of time.

There are some processes that are also virus-related. This is generally seen if there are uncommon names to a process function, particularly if there is no user name next to it or you receive a spike in CPU usage for that function.

its normal my friend. i had 70 processes.
but i turned some of them permenanlt.
you could do that by :
1. type services.msc in run (command prompt.)
2. then it will show u the processes and its description i short.
3. read them and shut down procs. which you fill are not god.

you can also shut down start up processes

by typing msconfig in run.

before doing this CREATE A RESTORE POINT ON YOUR PC
SO THAT YOU CAN GO BACK TO THAT POINT .

figuring out what's mandatory is a little extra complicated than i will tackle right here. start up, Run, MSCONFIG gets you to the Windoze configuration application and you will use that to close down many of the flaws that are loaded and run immediately. There are extra specialisted utilities that provides even extra suitable administration, yet MSCONFIG is a stable start up.

Hi. You do not mention your OS but Vista runs more background processes, so this may be normal.
