Yes, but then your labor might take longer because the cervix will need time during labor to soften.

You can. But the thing is, if you did, the early, latent phase of labor might be longer because your cervix is starting out in an unfavorable condition.

Contractions (even braxton hicks) release prostiglandine which softens your cervix.
You can help your labor along by having sex (sperm and orgasms both release prostiglandine and soften cervix).
